Laurencekirk & District

Fun and Friendship

Where do we meet?

Laurencekirk is part of Inner Wheel District 1, and we meet at the Panmure Arms Hotel, 52 High Street, Edzell.  DD9 7TA.   Meetings are held at 6.45pm for 7pm on the second Tuesday of the month.  No formal meetings are held in July & August but coffee mornings, fundraising and social events continue throughout the year.

Our Club

Laurencekirk is one of the younger clubs in our District.  We were chartered in 1985 We currently have 27 members.  As well as the monthly meetings, members enjoy monthly coffee mornings, walks and outings as well as fundraising for local and international projects.  Members of our local community knit squares which we sew together to create blankets for Blytheswood.  The club recently produced this excellent poster to attract new members.

Promoting Inner Wheel

The Laurencekirk & District Club attended a community volunteer event recently at Mearns Community Campus. Members promoted their club with the poster above and made contact with  one potential new member but also gained interest to join the knitting group. They raised awareness of their service to Blytheswood, Hamlin Fistula and Purple Community Fund. This was a very worthwhile afternoon.

Inner Wheel Day

In place of a face to face meeting in January, our club held our meeting on Zoom – a most acceptable alternative on a cold, dark, windy & very wintry evening.  Our speaker was none other than International Inner Wheel President, Trish Douglas who spoke to us from Manchester on the eve of the centenary.

Mearns Community Fayre

The club took a stall at the recent Mearns Community Fayre held at Mearns Academy in June.  This was to advertise the work of the club and generate some interest in becoming a member.  Business cards were given out to promote the club – using the above poster image and a QR code to this web page.  Great idea ladies!

Supporting local events

In August several member of the club supported the local bingo nuight in aid of Gala Week  wearing their new Inner Wheel polo shirts!  A Rotarian husband with us was very successful – we ladies will have to try again next year!

Coffee Mornings

Our regular coffee meet up is held at Castleton Farm Cafe near Fordoun on the last Friday of the month, which is much enjoyed and well attended.

Coffee Morning

Scenes from our highly successful Coffee Morning held in March – with a little help from friends in Rotary.

100 for 100 Challenge

We presented Margarette Golding roses to 3 local groups and gave over 100 bulbs to give out to those who support us throughout the year.

Our first 100 for 100 from Laurencekirk and District for the centenary year! A dazzling display of knitted items which will be en route to Blytheswood soon.
Many thanks to our knitters – your work is beautiful..

In October we collected more than 100 items for  Blytheswood shoe box appeal.

For Christmas 100 treats were collected and given to the local food bank – pic is of Lena handing over the goods to the Catalyst Vine Church.

Past President Marion Robson completed 100 miles on her trike

District Secretary Gladys has completed her challenge of producing 100 jars of jam, pickles and now marmalade!

District Chairman Jean’s Visit on 12th November

DC Jean visited Laurencekirk & District Club on 12th November accompanied by Forfar member Marjorie Kerr. In the photo above (from left) President Gladys, Marjorie and DC Jean. Jean congratulated the club on its use of the Association Toolkit to make posters. You can see the Club’s poster further up this page. A good business meeting took place on future events after Jean’s talk. One project in particular was International Service Organiser Suzanne’s efforts to promote a ring pull collection through local school, shops and businesses in the area. Members enjoyed the Bonfire & fireworks display organised by Laurencekirk Rotary Club.
