As well as the monthly meetings members enjoy monthly coffee mornings in members’ homes, a book group, walking group, one member regularly sells online towards our charity fundraising. We also collect for local food bank and homeless charity. We collect items and fundraise for international projects. A regular club newsletter is sent out to members keeping everyone up to date.

82nd Birthday for Aberdeen

The Aberdeen Club celebrated their 82nd Birthday since the Club was founded in Feb 1943. Four members of the Banff Club managed the drive to Aberdeen to help members celebrate. Gloria is seen cutting the cake and she is a very glamorous 89 year old and very active in many groups in Aberdeen along with her love of travelling. President Susie is with Gloria and also arranged an excellent speaker for us – Gordon Casely. Gordon’s presentation took us through slides of his travels by bike in Tibet and Nepal. A lifetime ambition for Gordon was to be as close to the base of Everest with no desire to climb it. Gordon highlighted political and cultural changes taking place over many years in these countries.

Other Projects Rotary Charity Shop, End Polio Walk

Members were busy helping out at the Rotary Charity Shop held in George Street Aberdeen in April – great to work alongside friends in Rotary for the benefit of local charities. Over £2000 was raised. Aberdeen Rotary have announced the dates for 2025 are 27th April to 3rd May so donations are now being collected.

Hanging Baskets at Clan House
Again this year we planted and hung our flower baskets outside Clan House. This started in 2014 to mark 90 years of Inner Wheel which coincided with 30 years of Clan House which is a charity funded haven for cancer sufferers and their families.
Coffee Mornings
Monthly coffee mornings are hosted by members.

2023 District Charity was SCAA

Aberdeen member Doris Campbell chose Scottish Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) as her charity for District 1 during her year as District Chairman. £6,434 was raised by the 19 Clubs in District 1 in 2023. This charity saves lives and the majority of air ambulances are called out to road traffic accidents (RTA). In 1971 Doris was involved in a serious RTA on the banks of Loch Maree (West of Scotland). An air ambulance would have taken Doris to hospital in 30 minutes instead of the 3 hour wait and 4 hour journey to Raigmore Hospital. SCAA is an important charity in Scotland.

Christmas meal at Gate 63 at NESCOL
If you are looking for a good place to have a Christmas meal look no further than the training college for chefs and hospitality staff called Gate 63 based at The Gallowgate, Aberdeen. We had a delicious meal – 2 courses for £18 plus gave the staff a tip. My pudding was gingerbread pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice cream – yum. I took the photo but did have some Christmas sparkle on. Aberdeen Club members had a most enjoyable celebration and only a couple of call offs. Doris x

St John Scotland
Members enjoyed a talk about St John Scotland in April (2023) and funds were presented recently to their local group to assist with local projects – installing defibtillators, CPR training and transporting renal patients to appointments.

President Beth presented the group with the club’s cheque at the Echt Show in July
