Where do we meet?
Montrose Inner Wheel is part of Inner Wheel District 1, and we meet at the George Hotel, 22 George Street, Montrose DD10 8EW. Meetings are held at 6.30 pm for 6.45pm on the second Thursday of the month. No formal meetings are held in July & August but coffee mornings, walks, fundraising and social events continue throughout the year.
Our Club
Montrose Inner Wheel was chartered in 1975 – so will celebrate a 50th Anniversary in 2025. We currently have 36 members. As well as the monthly meetings members enjoy coffee mornings, knitting, regular walks and outings as well as fundraising for local and international projects.
Our Town
Montrose is known for having the widest High Street in Scotland. The town has a beautiful view of a tidal lagoon, Montrose Basin. It has an important commercial port for the oil and gas industry. Between the High Street and the beach, there is a lovely area known as the Mid Links with a mile of parks. There are also the golf courses, the main one being the 1562 Golf Links. Beyond the courses lies the magnificent beach which attracts swimmers, families and dog walkers.
Joint Local Event
Members of our 3 local clubs took part in a joint event as part of the UN initiative to Stop the Violence against Women and Girls. The event took place at Strathmore School, in Forfar and we were joined by members from the Forfar and Laurencekirk clubs. The Secretary of our club here in Montrose is the Head Teacher at Strathmore School – Mrs Jennifer Garnes. What a welcome we received! Just amazing! The school hall was decorated with orange and our campaign posters were around the room, tables decorated with orange flowers along with napkins and orange cupcakes made by Mrs Laura Marr a teacher at the school. The pupils were the helpers also wearing orange, a huge thank you girls for doing so well. The Provost of Angus Craig Fotheringham came along to give his support to our OtW campaign. District Chairman Lynda, President Susan, from Forfar, who is also our District Treasurer, President Marion from Laurencekirk were in attendance along with Past District Chairman Jean and their Club Members. A great show of support for OtW and afterwards some members went for a walk showcasing OtW in the Reid Park. A wonderful morning had by all ![]()

50th Charter – Tea
This was celebrated in January at the George Hotel, Montrose. A delicious afternoon tea was served with members reminiscing about life in 1975 and key events in the club’s history . Sadly Club President Trish Douglas was delayed coming back from Oslo but made it towards the end of the afternoon to give her greetings. The meeting was chaired by VC Margaret Darling and visitors from their 2 neighbouring clubs – Forfar & Laurencekirk – braved the elements to be there. A lovely occasion enjoyed by all

Lynda Taylor
The club is delighted to have one of its own members as District Chairman this year. Lynda will be visiting all 17 Clubs in District 1 during her year, attending special events and holding a District 1 Rally in Montrose on 29th May 2026. One of the many jobs for a District Chairman is to chair all the District Committees during her year starting with an Assembly in August, a Zoom meeting in November, full face to face meeting in March and the AGM on Zoom in June. And there are Executive Committees to chair. Most of all Lynda is looking forward to travelling around the District which is an extremely large geographical area in Scotland and meet members in their home Club. Best wishes Lynda for your year.
Orange the World
The origins of Orange the World is described on the News page for District 1 above. Club President Trish Douglas has been the driving force for Inner Wheel to promote the OTW campaign to stop violence against women and Girls. Trish is a member of the Montrose Club and is 2nd Vice District Chairman. Not only is Trish back onto the District 1 Committee but Trish is a Past President of International Inner Wheel and Past President of Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in GB & I. With a presentation to the House of Lords in November (see story on News page) Trish brought together Association Committee members and members of London Clubs. At a local level Trish’s Club have held orange events and fundraised for Women’s Aid.
District Rally 2025
Congratulations to Trish!
The club were delighted to celebrate with Trish Douglas during her year as Internatuional Inner Wheel President for 2023-24. We were all so proud of her and everyone in District 1 were behind her in all her projects and followed her blogs and picture journeys around the world. Many members of course went to the IIW Convention in Manchestewr to support her.
Just some pictures of members enjoying the wonders of the Manchester Convention.
Walks
Regular walks are held – in June this was followed by a meal at the Park Hotel. However they continue in all weathers and during all seasons – to the beach and around the town. Pics show members Winnie, Sheila, Carol, Anne, Sheena, Georgina, and Helen.
