The Ellon Club has its own Facebook page so search for ‘Inner Wheel Club of Ellon’

Our town – Ellon

Ellon is a modest country town 15 miles north east of Aberdeen. It was created a burgh of barony in the 13th century when it was the seat of the Earls of Buchan. Situated as it is in the heart of rural northern Aberdeenshire it has long been an agricultural centre with regular markets until relatively recently. With the oil boom of the latter part of the last century Ellon became a dormitory town but it never lost its sense of identity and community.  In 2014 the18th century gardens surrounding the ruined 14th century Ardgith castle, right in the centre of Ellon, were gifted to the town and a group of volunteers have created a tranquil oasis for locals and wildlife in this beautiful spot, featuring amongst other things a collection of ancient yew trees which are at least 500 years old.

In the photo below you will see the one of two planter donated by the Ellon Club for the local community. These are now in place at Ellon Cemetery. The plaques highlight the Centary of Inner Wheel and that they are a gift from Ellon Inner Wheel Club.

Outing to Brew Dog

Ellon members went to the Brew Dog Craft Beer Distillery. Not just beer at the Ellon distillery but also gin, vodka and rum. The outing was an enjoyable day out to celebrate a local company that is truly international. Look at the Brew Dog website to read their history from small beginnings to a global market, bars, restaurants and hotels.

Inner Wheel Day 2026

For the last few years the Inner Wheel Club of Ellon has celebrated Inner Wheel Day by creating a collage of flowers in Inner Wheel colours. This year unfortunately our little community is blanketed by thick snow and several of our members haven’t ventured out since New Year let alone gone looking for flowers, so this time we had to do some lateral thinking. Several suggestions were made, from incorporating household items in IW colours to random flowers or photos of Members wearing IW colours against the snowy backdrop. So here is the result. What it lacks in classical beauty it more than makes up for by demonstrating the resilience and ingenuity of Ellon Inner Wheel.

ORANGE THE WORLD

Ellon members were out and about promoting Orange the World. They had a walk along the river and bridge lit up in orange. Shop display in window and distributed poster around Ellon. Great work to highlight the OTW campaign to stop violence against women and girls.

Association Conference Harrogate

Heather and Jean represent Ellon Club at the District 1 Dinner on 31st March at the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate .

Craft Fairs

For thr past couple of years we have held a very successful craft fair.  Local crafters hired stalls to sell their wares – the members of the club served soup & sweet. A very busy but rewarding event.  In 2025 the funds went to the RNLI and Arthritis Action .

District Chairman Lynda’s Club Visit

DC Lynda visited the Ellon Club on her travels around the Clubs in District 1 and received a very warm welcome from members.

Donation to local children’s charity

At the June meeting a cheque was presented to Kayleigh Wee Stars.  A charity that gives financial support to families with terminally ill children. We also donated to the local Riding for Disabled Centre and donated monies raised, to local, national and international charities.

Presentation to CHSS

Alison Cowe (President for September) presents a cheque for £50 to Ann Magarin, speaker from Chest Heart and Stroke. who gave an interesting talk.

Ellon Club knitted blankets

Jean & Heather delivered the blankets to Harrogate Conference.

At the District Rally

Ellon Club members (above) travelled to Forfar to attend the District Rally in May alongside around another 100 members from far & wide.

International Day of Peace

Ellon are one of the few clubs in District 1 to regularly commemorate the International Day of Peace each September.  They do this by placing flowers in IW colours in their homes or window sills.  then posting the pictures on Facebook.  WELL DONE!
