District 1 Executive 2026-27

Introducing District 1

District 1 covers a vast geographical area. 14 Clubs span from Stirling in the south to Inverness in the North. Inner Wheel Clubs promote true friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service and foster international understanding. Information on each club and activities can be found in the drop down menu above.

District Executive 2026-2027

District 1 Rally Montrose 29 May 2026

District 1 held their 74th Rally at The Park Hotel Montrose on 29 May 2026. District 1 Chairman, Lynda Taylor (Montrose) has from the left of photo Nanette Thomson (Deputy Member of Council and 1st Vice Chairman)(Stirling), Margaret Darling (D1 International Services Officer) (Montrose) and Trish Douglas (Past IIIW President and 2nd Vice Chairman) (Montrose). Pam Boyes stands in the Centre right of photo. Pam is Inner Wheel Association GB&I President), then Jane Benson (D1 Secretary) (Dunfermline), Susan Oliphant (D1 Treasurer and Forfar President) and Jean Hale (D1 Membership & Development Officer) (Forfar).

Jean Hale took photos around the room of the tables. These photos as well as the floral decorations showed the amazing colour around the room. The Montrose Floral Club organised and arranged all the magnificent floral displays that were raffled in aid of charity Maggies after the lunch raised £230.

Llandudno - Conference 2026

23-25 March 2026

Members from District 1 are attending the Association Conference of GB&I in Llandudno, Wales 23 -25 March. Some tricky rail journeys and car sharing journeys to get to Llandudno. Cars filled with donations from members for the various stalls at Conference such as the Chocolate tombola. The Conference venue Cymru is pictured above (thanks to PDC Jean for all the photos above and below). More photos will follow. The District 1 dinner took place on 23rd March and the gallery below shows members meeting up and relaxing prior to the start of the Conference.

District 10 - Link District to D1

District 1 members had a Link lunch with District 10 members on Tuesday 24th March. Although there were no photos on the day, here are a couple of photos of District 10 members donating to their chosen charities - 1. members of the Gloucester Club at Mary's Meals stall; 2. Phyllis Charter presents the Charter family lion and a cheque to a representative of the Purple Community Charity.

Nanette Thomson (Stirling)

Nanette Thomson (Stirling) is our new District Chairman for 2026-27. Nanette was DC in 2004-2005. At the District 1 Assembly in Dundee on 19th August 2026 Nanette introduced us to her chosen charity -'It's Good to Give' a charity that supports young cancer patients and their families in Scotland. Nanette introduced our speaker Ruari Mackenzie, Director & Trustee of It's Good 2 Give'. For information on this charity and the Ripple Retreat click the link below.

Maggies Fundraising 2025-26

RNLI Fundraising

£7,703 from D1 Clubs

Jean Hale presented a cheque to Spencer Harris of RNLI on 13th August 2025 after a year of fundraising. A total of £7,703 was raised to assist in the lifesaving work of the RNLI. Jean thanked all members and clubs for this amazing total towards the District 1 Charity and more all their efforts with the various events.

International Inner Wheel Day - 10th January

Members in Clubs do a variety of projects for International Inner Wheel Day on 10th January each year. Donating to food banks or homeless shelters are the most popular. However Ellon Inner Wheel display Inner Wheel coloured flowers in their member windows each year.

Donations to Charities

Below are a fraction of the number of photos from Clubs donating to charities. See individual club pages for what they have been up to. These donations can be in kind or from a fundraising event and benefit international charities, national charities in GB&I as well as hundreds of local charities and good causes .

Member at Large

Diana Taylor is District 1's Member at Large. Diana's club (Aberfeldy and District) has disbanded at the end of the IW year on 30th June. However Diana has a long relationship and love of Inner Wheel so decided to apply for Member at Large and it was approved. Best wishes to Diana.

District 1 and 2 Lunch

Once a year District 1 and 2 Executives get together for lunch and the most recent was held on. 15th November at Balhousie Castle (Perth). This castle is the home of the Black Watch Museum.

A delicious lunch was enjoyed by all with an opportunity to catch up, exchange views and share any plans for the upcoming Orange the World Campaign. A member of District 2 crocheted the OTW rondel.

District Assembly Dundee (19 August 2026)

Each year District 1 has an Assembly and this has taken place at the Invercarse Hotel, Dundee for the past 4 years. For incoming Club officers the Assembly is a good opportunity to find out what is required of the Club Executive officer and meet District Officers. A lunch allows members to mix with members from around our District. Remember the District is a huge geographical area from Stirling in the south to Inverness in the North. 14 clubs now in 2026-27 as 3 Clubs have disbanded - Aberfeldy, Dundee and Kinross.

The Stirling Club presented DC Nanette with lovely flowers and the photo below shows Stirling President Jessie Stuart handing over the flowers and a group photo with members.

The Ellon Club was the recipient this year of the Taylor-Brown quaich for an outstanding Inner Wheel Club in District 1. The Club has grown and flourished during 2025-26 with service to their community, greater involvement in District and Association events. Their monthly rota of Club Presidents and a unique Club newsletter featuring personal articles from Club members.

Donations for Ukraine

Forfar President Susan Oliphant & Lesley Ducat (above) delivered a huge amount of women’s sanitary items to TASH - ready for shipment to Ukraine - in their 100th lorry. The ladies also donated cash (collected in Smartie tubes) which will go towards transport costs. The Forfar Club have an ongoing commitment to this important international charity, as does our Inverness Club which for many years has worked beside the 4 Rotary Clubs of Inverness supplying medical and other life preserving essentials. Seen below loading up for a recent shipment.

Orange the World

What is Orange the World? It is a United Nations campaign to encourage people all over the world to wear the colour orange to take action and end violence towards women and girls (25th November to 10th December). To start off the campaign, Trish Douglas, D1 2nd Vice Chairman (Montrose) has been in London giving a presentation about Orange the World at the House of Lords. Trish is part of the Unite Team for OtW and also a member of the GB&I OtW Team. Trish was accompanied by Ann Gaunt (Auchterarder & District) and members of District 16 London Clubs. Also in the photos are Di Hylton, Anthea Tilsley, Liz Thomas and Betty Roberts.
