Fun & Friendship

Where do we meet?

Banff Inner Wheel is part of Inner Wheel District 1, and we meet at:  Banff Springs Hotel, Golden Knowes Road, Banff.  AB45 2JE.  Meetings are held at 7.30pm on the last Monday of every month.  No formal meetings are held in July & August but coffee mornings, social and fundraising activities continue throughout the year.

Our Club

Banff Inner wheel was chartered in 1959.    We currently have 20 members.  As well as the monthly meetings members enjoy regular coffee mornings, walks and outings as well as fundraising for local and international projects.

Our Area

Stunning view of Banff

Banff is an attractive seaside town, population around 4000, built between the mouth of the River Deveron and the beautiful sandy beach of Inverboyndie Bay. It was originally a port but now the picturesque harbour is used for pleasure craft. Banff has many interesting historic buildings, particularly Duff House built by William Adam in 1740. Many keen golfers come to play at Duff House Royal, a pristine course developed in the surrounding grounds.
Our members also come from the fishing town of MacDuff, Turriff (famous for the Turra Cow) and the village of Portsoy, which has a renowned boat festival in the summer and was recently used for filming Peeky Blinders!

Summer Outing to Pavillion, Tarlair

Our summer 2025 outing in August was to the newly renovated and refurbished pavilion at Tarlair in Macduff. We had a Mandala (dot) Painting Workshop led by Linda from Love to Paint where we each created our own mandala disc and then rounded the afternoon off with tea and cake. As you can see from the photos, the workshop was well attended, enjoyable and great fun. Our end results are stunning too.

Inner Wheel Day

On January 10th we held a knitathon in the home of our President – enjoying friuendship & cakes while completing nearly 2 blankets for Ukraine

Blytheswood Boxes

The club has also been busy filling boxes for Blytheswood – pic. below is of them being delivered to the depot.

Christmas Meeting 2024

At Banff Club’s Christmas Meal members always bring donations for the local food bank. Over 120 items were donated this year.

A very informative presentation was given from mother and daughter team (Kaya and Anna) from Carnie Bees who explained all about the health benefits of not only honey but pollen, apitherapy and even bee stings. It was even better being able to sample and buy some of the infused honeys that were brought along. Club Correspondent Jan Foster had a favourite – lemon and ginger honey that was delicious. One interesting fact about adding honey to a drink – the liquid should not be more than 40 degrees or the goodness of the honey enzymes is lost.

Birthday Lunch 2024

On a lovely November day, members from Inverness, Nairn, Ellon, Forfar and Aberdeen gathered for a delicious meal at the Banff Springs Hotel, Banff followed by Birthday cake. In the photo above District Chairman Jean joins President Teresa to cut the cake organised by Club member Jan Foster. The highlight of the lunch was speaker, Robert Lovie (above) who entertained ladies with stories and poems. Robert Lovie is well known in the North East of Scotland for his work at Fyvie Castle for 25 years for the National Trust for Scotland and taking over commentating Highland Games in Scotland from the great, late Robbie Shepherd.

District Chairman’s Visit

President Joyce Miller welcomed District Chairman, Lynda Taylor  to their first meeting of the new Inner Wheel (IW) year on 29th September. After a delicious meal and lots of friendly conversations Lynda updated members on initiatives and targets not just in District 1 but IW Association and International IW as well. Lynda was delighted to carry out the formal induction of Banff’s 3 new members, Barbara French, Fiona Jollie and Una Raymond. In the photo below there are (from left) President Joyce, Barbara, D1 Chairman Lynda, Una and Fiona. Many congratulations to the Banff Club.

RNLI Visit

Banff Club members enjoyed a visit to the local RNLI station in the summer. Team work helping at RNLI kitchen for refreshments.

In may a very successful Soup & Sweet Lunch was held in aid of the RNLI.  Our 100 square lucky hamper draw was a big winner. £1000 was raised for this worthwhile charity

Fundraising for SCAA

A very successful fundraising lunch was held in 2023 to raise funds for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance .  Nigel, a pilot who operates one of the fixed wing planes from Aberdeen with SCAA gave the club a talk in April.  They also operate  2 helicopters.  We were delighted to raise £1500 and President Teresa presented the cheque in Aberdeen at the heliport.
